Description
A Hardwood Trillium Macro by Dale Kauzlaric – I went for a hike on the Ice Age Trail northeast of Wausau in Marathon County, Wisconsin. Trillium and other wildflowers lined the trail. The Trillium is a perennial spring flower native to deciduous hardwood forests in temperate regions of the United States. There are 39 native trilliums in the U.S. All trillium species belong to the Liliaceae (lily) family. Trilliums are slow growers requiring a minimum of seven years from seed to flowering. The plants can live for up to 25 years. Ants are attracted to the seeds and collect them and transport them away from the parent plant. It is illegal to pick trilliums on state land. This a macro view of this trillium showing its details. -- dalekphotography.com
