Description
Anticrepuscular Rays Over Lake Wausau by Dale Kauzlaric -- I went down to Lake Wausau in Wausau, Marathon County, Wisconsin. At sunset, visible rays made an appearance. These types of rays are called “crepuscular" because they appear at dawn and dusk when the Sun is rising or setting. These particular rays are called "anticrepuscular" because they appear in the sky opposite to where the Sun is or 180 degrees from the sunrise or sunset. Anticrepuscular rays are fainter than their counterpart, crepuscular rays. Often times, they are both visible at the same time. Anticrepuscular rays are near-parallel, but appear to converge at the antisolar point due to an optical illusion from linear perspective. It’s similar to a long, straight road converging toward the horizon regardless of which way one is looking. -- dalekphotography.com
