Description
Banking Mallards by Dale Kauzlaric -- I went to the Mead Wildlife Area located near Mosinee in Marathon County, Wisconsin, to see what waterfowl were in the area. As I drove over, the fog was very thick in areas. I got to the pond in the dark and it was foggy here, too. The ducks and swans were on the pond. It was an hour after sunrise and the fog was hanging in there. I heard the air being ripped through wings and thought it would be a flock of divers. The flock flew to the other side and turned back to the center of the pond. It was a flock of mallards, instead. As they came at me, they banked to the left. The sun was off to my left, shining brightly on these mallards. The underside of their wings flashed white as they were banking to land on the pond. The flock consisted of one hen and eight drakes chasing her. I had been envisioning this image for a few years now. An image with ducks (I thought it would be some divers) coming at me and flaring with all of them in tack sharp focus. Now, I need another image to chase! -- dalekphotography.com
