Description
EAA 2024 - B-29 Doc by Dale Kauzlaric -- The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, hosts an air show every year at Whitman Field. EAA was founded in 1953 and is commonly known as The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration. Here is the "Doc" B-29 Superfortress flying at the sunset hour. It is one of only two airworthy B-29s. It flew with the other B-29 "FIFI" and a Canadian Lancaster bomber. The B-29 Superfortress was an American four-engined propeller-driven heavy bomber manufactured by Boeing. This B-29 was named in honor of Doc of the seven dwarfs. Nearly 4,000 B-29s were built for the World War II and Korean War efforts. Doc was built in 1945. Doc served in multiple non-combat roles. In 1956, it was relegated to being a bomber target in the Mojave Desert. In 1987, initial plans were made to obtain and restore Doc. The restoration process began in 1998. Doc took its first flight in July 2016 since 1956. In 2017, Doc started its airshow tour. -- dalekphotography.com
