Pleiades Over Antigo by Dale Kauzlaric -- The data was indicating the aurora borealis or northern lights had a chance of appearing, so I went out northeast to the Ackley Wildlife Area located near Antigo, in Langlade County, Wisconsin. I tried to find a spot with a unobstructed north view. This was a new area I had not been to before, but I found a spot I liked. Here the channel on the left was froze over already, while the channel on the right was open water. As I was getting set up, the intensity of the green glow grew. Here the dike I was on, split the green glow of the aurora and the lights from the City of Antigo. Even though Antigo is over 12 miles away, its lights can be easily seen. I really like the look of the green reflection on the left and the purple reflection on the right. In the upper right, the Pleiades star cluster can be seen over Antigo. These stars are also called the Seven Sisters.

As a Wisconsin-based photographer and having grown up in Vilas County with its over 1,300 lakes, the outdoors runs through my veins. Through the 40 years of chasing images with a camera, landscape photography is my favorite, particularly landscapes with water, any kind of water. Colorful sunrises and sunsets can be captivating. Shooting after the sun goes down can yield amazing images. Waterfowl or other wildlife can provide quite the challenge to get up close in their natural settings. Someone left a comment on one of my sunset images about capturing the colors the master painter provided.
