Description
Rime Ice Along The Plover River by Dale Kauzlaric -- We have had freezing fog and the conditions have been just right, where it has lasted on the trees for the last five days. I am sure most of you have heard of hoar frost, but if you have not, it is similar to dew and happens on cold and clear nights. But I learned something new this winter. The conditions were just right this winter for rime ice to form. It is when supercooled water drops (in liquid form) in the air come in contact with a surface below freezing. Those liquid water droplets then freeze on contact. The crystals can be quite long and look like shards of glass up close. Here is the Plover River located in Marathon County Wisconsin, with rime ice covering the trees along the shore. There was no wind and the clouds and trees are reflected like in a mirror. The Plover is known as a trout river. -- dalekphotography.com

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.
