Aurora At The Corner Post by Dale Kauzlaric -- The data was indicating the aurora borealis or northern lights had a chance of appearing, so I went out north of Wausau, Marathon County, Wisconsin. It started out with a glow on the horizon and that lasted for about an hour and 15 minutes that I was out. I was beginning to wonder if it would get any better. I moved from my original spot and went to a friend's house. It was still not doing much more and then all of a sudden there were pillars and the glow got a lot brighter. This image was taken near the corner fence post on a nearby farm field. This lasted about a half hour and started to fade.
The aurora borealis or northern lights is a colored light display that is visible in the night sky, usually only around the earth’s poles. As a Wisconsin-based photographer and having grown up in Vilas County with its over 1,300 lakes, the outdoors runs through my veins. Through the 40 years of chasing images with a camera, landscape photography is my favorite, particularly landscapes with water, any kind of water. Colorful sunrises and sunsets can be captivating. Shooting after the sun goes down can yield amazing images. Waterfowl or other wildlife can provide quite the challenge to get up close in their natural settings. Someone left a comment on one of my sunset images about capturing the colors the master painter provided. I guess that would sum up what I try to do, that is to capture that opportunity that God provides and share it to the best of my ability by telling...
