Autumn on the Ice Age Trail by Dale Kauzlaric -- I went on a walk on the Ice Age Trail located north of Hatley, Marathon County, Wisconsin on this autumn day. The fallen leaves are covering the ground like a noisy carpet.
When the glaciers retreated from the last Ice Age, they left behind beauty across the State of Wisconsin. The Ice Age Trail is one of only eleven National Scenic Trails and is located entirely within Wisconsin. The trail will be 1,200 miles long, located within 31 counties and completely constructed by volunteers. The Trail is not yet finished. Most of the trail is a footpath through woods. Some segments, however, lead hikers down main streets of Wisconsin communities. The Trail occasionally follows state bike trails, too. As a Wisconsin-based photographer and having grown up in Vilas County with its over 1,300 lakes, the outdoors runs through my veins. Through the 40 years of chasing images with a camera, landscape photography is my favorite, particularly landscapes with water, any kind of water. Colorful sunrises and sunsets can be captivating. Shooting after the sun goes down can yield amazing images. Waterfowl or other wildlife can provide quite the challenge to get up close in their natural settings. Someone left a comment on one of my sunset images about capturing the colors the master painter provided. I guess that would sum up what I try to do, that is to capture that opportunity that God provides and share it to the best of my ability by telling...
