Trillium In The Sunshine by Dale Kauzlaric – I was in the Mead Wildlife Area southwest of Wausau in Marathon County, Wisconsin. Trillium and other wildflowers have just started to emerge after the cold spring. I found a spot with the forest floor was covered with trilliums. The Trillium is a perennial spring flower native to deciduous woodland or forests in temperate regions of the United States. There are 39 native trilliums in the U.S. All trillium species belong to the Liliaceae (lily) family. Trilliums are slow growers requiring a minimum of seven years from seed to flowering. The plants can live for up to 25 years. Ants are attracted to the seeds and collect them and transport them away from the parent plant. It is illegal to pick trilliums on state land. As a Wisconsin-based photographer and having grown up in Vilas County with its over 1,300 lakes, the outdoors runs through my veins. Through the 40 years of chasing images with a camera, landscape photography is my favorite, particularly landscapes with water, any kind of water. Colorful sunrises and sunsets can be captivating. Shooting after the sun goes down can yield amazing images. Waterfowl or other wildlife can provide quite the challenge to get up close in their natural settings. Someone left a comment on one of my sunset images about capturing the colors the master painter provided. I guess that would sum up what I try to do, that is to capture that opportunity that God provides and share it to the best of my ability by telling...
