Description
Framed Trillium BW by Dale Kauzlaric – I was in the Mead Wildlife Area southwest of Wausau in Marathon County, Wisconsin. Trillium and other wildflowers have just started to pop after the cold spring. I found a spot where the forest floor was covered with trilliums. The trillium is a perennial spring flower native to deciduous woodland or forests in temperate regions of the United States. There are 39 native trilliums in the U.S. All trillium species belong to the Liliaceae (lily) family. Trilliums are slow growers requiring a minimum of seven years from seed to flowering. The plants can live for up to 25 years. Ants are attracted to the seeds and collect them and transport them away from the parent plant. It is illegal to pick trilliums on state land. Here is a black and white macro of a trillium framed by other trilliums in the background. -- dalekphotography.com
