Purple Pillar And Big Dipper by Dale Kauzlaric -- The data was indicating the aurora borealis had a chance of appearing, so I went out to a small lake north of Rhinelander in Oneida County, Wisconsin, on Labor Day weekend. When I got to the lake, I could see the aurora band across the lake, along with the big dipper. After about 15 minutes and the aurora lit up with the green and purple pillars. The aurora was pulsing and moving from right to left. Here you can see a large pillar next to the big dipper.

Through the 40 years of chasing images with a camera, landscape photography is my favorite, particularly landscapes with water, any kind of water. Colorful sunrises and sunsets can be captivating.
