Description
Parnell Tower 5 by Dale Kauzlaric -- I went to the Parnell Tower located just a few miles northwest of the Nichols Creek State Wildlife Area. This area is northwest of Cascade in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. This area is part of the Kettle Moraine State Forest and the State Park System. The Ice Age National Scenic Trail is located at Parnell Tower. The fall colors were peaking in the County. The morning was cloudy and windy. I was the first one in the parking lot. It was still dark. I hiked up to the tower with headlamp on. The trail to the tower is an uphill grade all the way to the tower and built with steps in the hillside. The observation tower is 60 feet tall and is above all the trees. It is said you can see 25 miles when visibility is good. When I got up to the top, it was windy and cold. I could have used another layer or two. The temperature was 32 degrees. I was there for about an hour and only two other people made the climb. The sunrise was fiery red and the trees were in absolutely peak color. As the sun disappeared in the clouds again, the clouds over the farm below darkened. -- dalekphotography.com
