Description
Dad's Sunburst by Dale Kauzlaric -- I wanted to pay tribute to my Dad who had passed exactly one year on September 19th. I was in Eagle River, Vilas County, Wisconsin, where we grew up. After I had thought about it, what better way than on the golf course. He golfed until he was 82 and always enjoyed it. Also, this part of the golf course, was part of our family farm, way back in the day. I went out about 45 minutes before sunrise. It was cold, about 25 degrees, with frost. As the day began to unfold, I could see the frost on the fairway. The sky in the east started turning pink and yellow. As the sun was rising, it's sunburst was visible through all the trees.
After I showed this photo to my brother, he explained the significance of the tree that the sunburst was shining through. Some years ago, my Dad let the golf course superintendent go and get trees on his land and transplant them on the golf course. As it turns out, the scotch pine that the sunburst was showing through, is known as "Fred's Tree" after Dad. He would normally fade his shots and would end up under this tree, hence the name. I had no idea about this tree and when I was walking around looking for compositions, the sunburst came through his tree on his anniversary. Coincidental, I don't know. The sunburst just happened to be visible through the scotch pine, the ash tree behind it, the row of pines behind the ash tree and just above the club house on the other side of the row of pines. It was meant to be on this day.
The sunrise ushering in that fall day, was a great tribute to him and he would have liked it. -- dalekphotography.com
